ISO 45001 SOP requirements: what the auditor wants to see
  • 1.ISO 45001 clause 8.1 requires documented work instructions for every safety-critical process — from LOTO to confined spaces.
  • 2.The auditor checks not only existence and currency, but above all availability at the workplace.
  • 3.Soperion automatically color-codes safety-critical steps and makes SOPs accessible via QR code directly at the machine.
  • 4.The risk-assessment gap is being addressed by AI-based automatic hazard detection from video.

ISO 45001 requires documented procedures for every safety-critical activity. At every audit the auditor checks three things: do work instructions exist? Are they current? And are they available at the workplace?

ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System) requires documented procedures for every safety-critical activity. Soperion produces safety-critical SOPs with automatic hazard marking and QR code access directly at the workplace — exactly what the auditor wants to see.

What ISO 45001 actually requires

ISO 45001 clause 8.1 (Operational Planning and Control) requires organizations to plan, implement, and maintain the processes needed to meet occupational-safety requirements. In practice this means: every safety-critical process must have a documented work instruction.

The most important processes include LOTO procedures (lockout-tagout) for every maintenance task, work at heights and fall protection, handling of hazardous substances, work on electrical installations, crane operations and lifting, work in confined spaces, and emergency and evacuation procedures.

How Soperion supports ISO 45001

Soperion addresses the core requirements of ISO 45001 through several mechanisms. Safety-critical steps are automatically color-coded — the operator sees immediately which steps are especially dangerous and demand special attention. The safety notes at the start of every SOP document the required PPE and precautions before the process begins. The escalation plan defines actions for deviations and emergencies — with contact people and reporting paths.

The most important feature for ISO 45001: the SOP is accessible via QR code directly at the workplace. At the control cabinet, on the scaffold, at the crane, at the hazardous-materials store. The auditor sees: the instruction is not just present and current — it is right where it is needed.

The gap: risk assessment

Alongside SOPs, ISO 45001 also requires risk assessments. Soperion is working on AI-based automatic hazard detection from video, which in the future will recognize hazards such as rotating parts, high voltage, hot surfaces, or missing protective equipment and pre-fill the risk matrix automatically. Today, safety notes are extracted from the operator's explanations in the video.

常见问题

Is Soperion alone enough for ISO 45001 certification?
Soperion covers the SOP documentation requirements. A complete occupational-safety management system under ISO 45001 includes further elements such as risk assessment, training records, and continuous improvement.
Are the color-coded safety markings set automatically?
Yes. The AI recognizes safety-relevant explanations in the audio and automatically marks the corresponding steps as safety-critical.
Can Soperion generate training records?
A feature for automatic comprehension questions and training records from every SOP is in development. It will address the ISO 45001 requirement for competency evidence.
